SUMMER DESTINATION | Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ

When things start to heat up in Tucson, Arizona’s mountain towns provide the perfect summer retreat. Not only will you experience temperatures that are 20 to 30 degrees cooler than Tucson, but you will also have an opportunity to get to know another part of our fantastic state.  One of our favorites is Pinetop, AZ.  Drive time from Tucson is typically in the 3 ½ to 4 hours range and traveling through the Salt River Canyon to get there is stunning.

Pinetop-Lakeside is in Northeastern Arizona, in a region known as the White Mountains.  With an elevation of 6,804 feet in town and nearby Mount Baldy reaching 11,400 ft, the area is the perfect place to stay cool on hot summer days. With a relaxed setting and small-town feel, you are invited to unplug and unwind. Home to more than 50 alpine lakes and 800 miles of cold, crystal-clear rivers and springs, Pinetop-Lakeside is an outdoor paradise. There is something for everyone to enjoy. Here are some of our favorite things to do while hanging out in Pinetop!

Eat, Drink & Play | THE ORCHARD
Part of an original historic homestead, The Orchard at Charlie Clarks is only open during the summer. With old barns converted into an outdoor bar and dining area and surrounded by big shade trees and an apple orchard, the setting is picturesque. Live music is offered several days a week and the dance floor invites you to get up and really enjoy the tunes!

Go Fishing or Camping | BIG LAKE RECREATION AREA
Big Lake is situated at 9,000 feet at the base of Mount Baldy in the Apache-Sitgreaves National forest. It is a large reservoir located in the subalpine grasslands and the subalpine forests of eastern Arizona about 20 miles from the New Mexico border. Choose from one of nine campgrounds and experience exceptional hiking and mountain biking trails, wildlife viewing, and trout fishing.

Hike an AZ High Peak | MOUNT BALDY
The second highest peak in Arizona at 11,409, Mount Baldy has incredible scenery from start to finish. There are several routes to choose from, so you can choose one route as and out and back or go up one and down another. Take in meadows, streams, woods, and wildflowers on your journey to the summit. With only 2000 ft of elevation gain over 7 miles, the trail accommodates all levels, but be prepared for a long day!

Play a Round of Golf | PINETOP LAKES GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
Pinetop Lakes Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole executive golf course with a unique experience.  Featuring 5 par-4's and 2 par-5's with the rest being par 3's that are no sure thing. The total yardage is 4,558 from the tips. All the holes are lined on each side with beautiful tall pines, gorgeous homes and of course out of bounds. This public course welcomes all!

Grab a Local Brew | PINETOP BREWING COMPANY
Brewed at 7000 ft.  We love to chill the relaxed local atmosphere and thoughtfully produced brews at Pinetop Brewing Company.  Featuring award-winning Belgian style beers using traditional European brewing techniques.  Whether you are in the mood for a post hike beverage, some food, or both, they have you covered. Don’t miss the Chardonnay Blonde!
