Located in the shadow of Tucson’s most prominent mountain range, the Catalina Foothills is home to several spectacular golf courses and resorts, a few legendary art galleries, and plenty of restaurants and retail.

Boasting a population of more than 50,000 residents, this area is considered one of the most affluent communities in Arizona and in the United States and includes some of Arizona's most expensive homes and land. There are not too many cookie-cutter houses here, and real estate is scattered throughout the restaurants and resorts in this area.  Residents of the Catalina Foothills foster a strong connection to nature — incredible sunsets and miles of desert trails are the main attraction — but there is also a theme of luxury running through this amenity-laden suburb.

There are more than 23,000 households and 15,000 families residing in the Catalina Foothills. The population is spread pretty evenly across all age groups, but a good portion of retirees call this suburb home.

Dining, Shopping & Entertainment

La Encantada, the largest upscale shopping center in the Tucson metropolitan area, is located in the Catalina Foothills. Stores include Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, and Tommy Bahama, to name a few, along with excellent local dining.

The Catalina Foothills community also forms the core of Tucson's resort corridor. Popular hotspots include Hacienda Del Sol, a relaxing refuge with breathtaking views and storied history. Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn are among many of the famous names who have strolled the grounds of this stunning resort, which is included in the National Registry of Historic Places in Arizona and is a member of Historic Hotels of America.

The Westin La Paloma, a AAA Four-Diamond hotel in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, offers staggering views of the Santa Catalina Mountains and a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.

At Loews Ventana Canyon you’ll find amenities and services of every variety.  For those who appreciate the serenity of the outdoors, there are miles of hiking trails.  Golf enthusiasts may enjoy either of the PGA, Tom Fazio-designed courses.  Beyond this, there are tennis courts, lovely grounds to meander, and two heated pools with spectacular scenery all around.

The Foothills area is also home to the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun, a 10-acre property that features an eclectic chapel, an art gallery, and a free museum.

Enjoy excellent hiking and incredible views at Sabino Canyon Recreation Area, Pima Canyon, Finger Rock Trail & the Ventana Canyon Trail.


The Catalina Foothills is home to a number of excellent schools. Top educational opportunities include:

  • Catalina Foothills School District or “District 16” as it’s known locally, is a top-rated cluster of schools continually scores among the highest in the state on standardized tests. Catalina Foothills High School is the only high school located in Catalina Foothills proper and was established in 1992. In 2006, Catalina Foothills had Arizona's second-highest percentage of students exceeding math standards, the third-highest percentage of students exceeding reading standards, and the ninth-highest percentage of students exceeding writing standards on the Arizona Instrument to Measure Success (AIMS) mandatory exam.
